Considered one of my favourite issues to do in Rome is sit at a restaurant on the piazza, sip on a spritz and watch Italians speak to one another. Their arms transfer simply as shortly as they communicate — a sort of conversational dance. I used to be consuming gelato after I discovered that a few of these gestures really imply one thing: A brand new buddy twisted their index finger into their cheek whereas saying “che buono!” which means “It’s so good!” I quickly found there’s a gesture for nearly every part: being scared, telling somebody to not fear, spaghetti and (after all), some ruder ones. Whereas I nonetheless wrestle with the language, studying gestures together with the phrases has made it a little bit extra enjoyable.
